AfriForum cleans up wetland in Moreleta Kloof Nature Reserve

AfriForum on 6 July 2018 cleaned up the wetland in the Moreleta Kloof Nature Reserve after garbage that was carried off by the spruit ended up in the wetland. Equipped with rubber gloves and waterproof boots, AfriForum members removed eight garbage bags full of trash from the wetland.

“AfriForum will also test water in the wetland this month to ensure that it adheres to legal requirements,” says Lambert de Klerk, AfriForum’s Regional Coordinator for Gauteng North.

Four members of the AfriForum internship programme helped clean up the wetland.

“Community members must take responsibility for the preservation of wetlands, which play an important role in the control of storm water, as well as serving as natural reservoirs. That is why clean-up actions like these are necessary,” says Chantelle du Preez, an AfriForum internship student.

Community members can become involved at AfriForum: SMS “Pretoria” to 45341 (R1) or send an email to lambert.deklerk@afriforum.co.za.
