AfriForum condemns Malema’s racist incitement against minorities

The civil rights organisation AfriForum today condemned the incitement of violence against minorities by Julius Malema, leader of the EFF, and appealed to political leaders to campaign for the protection of civil freedoms without turning to incitement.

This follows Malema’s tweet today, referring to the xenophobic violence crisis, in which he incites other black people to turn their anger towards white people. Malema tweeted: “Our anger is directed at wrong people. Like all of us, our African brothers & sisters are selling their cheap labour for survival. The owners of our wealth is [sic] white monopoly capital; they are refusing to share it with us & the ruling party #ANC protects them. #OneAfricaIsPossible.”

Ernst Roets, Head of Policy and Action at AfriForum, says that all forms of violence should stop and that it should not simply be directed at other communities. “This is nothing more than a racist attack on a vulnerable minority group.”

AfriForum will continue its international campaign to create awareness of the oppression of minority rights in South Africa.
