AfriForum establishes branch in Pinetown

The civil rights organisation AfriForum recently established a new branch in Pinetown after numerous requests from the community. The founding committee comprises Magda Meiring (Chairperson), Conrad Wilhelm (Vice-chairperson), Deon Oosthuizen (Treasurer), Wilna Wepner (Secretary) and Charlize Oosthuizen (additional member).

During the founding meeting, Eugene van Aswegen, AfriForum’s Provincial Coordinator for KwaZulu-Natal, presented the organisation’s model and recent success stories. AfriForum’s model focuses on making communities stronger and curb the irreversible deterioration of government responsibilities on local government, community safety and environmental level. AfriForum’s offering include accredited training, equipment, a national network and valuable experience.

Van Aswegen also gave a speech on the topic “to plan for the next generation”.

“We are excited to be part of an organisation that serves communities to help us create a future in South Africa. We invite everyone who wants to be part of the solution to contact one of the board members. We want to expand to be a full-fledged branch for the Pinetown community,” says Meiring, Chairperson of the new Pinetown branch.

“We plan for the next generation and look forward to working with Pinetown to expand our structures to create a sustainable future. We see the need every day for communities who are involved in ensuring service delivery. We have a fight and build approach to good service delivery, but we will intervene ourselves where the state fails,” says Van Aswegen.

The community is encouraged to get involved with this AfriForum branch in order to make a real difference: SMS “Pinetown” to 45344 (R1).
