AfriForum neighbourhood watches in Southern Gauteng participate in national patrol

The AfriForum neighbourhood watches in Southern Gauteng – Vanderbijlpark, Roodepoort and Randfontein – participated in a national patrol on Friday, 19 October 2018.

These three neighbourhood watches and 57 patrollers travelled almost 1 500 km in 45 vehicles. Only one incident was reported and successfully handled in cooperation with the SAPS. Twenty-eight other safety institutions, among these community policing forums (CPFs), security firms, the SAPS and other private neighbourhood watches, were also part of the patrol.

“AfriForum have these national patrols to improve visibility and cooperation to promote the safety of our communities,” says Dewet Ungerer, AfriForum’s Assistant Coordinator for Southern Gauteng.

“AfriForum encourages the community to get involved and prioritise their own safety, rather than being dependent on the state. Join any local safety institution in your area and become part of the solution,” concludes Ungerer.
