AfriForum’s Apies River neighbourhood watches hold mass patrol

The AfriForum neighbourhood watches of Apies River took part in a community patrol the past weekend. The patrol was executed by about 181 neighbourhood watch members, members of the Tshwane Metro Police and members of the South African Police Service (SAPS).

“It warms my heart that neighbourhood watch members and volunteers are always willing to participate in these patrols. AfriForum is grateful for every person sacrificing their time to make a difference,” says Jaco Brits, Safety Chairperson of AfriForum’s Apies River branch.

“The patrollers monitored the Apies River area in shifts from Friday evening 19:00 to Saturday morning 2:00. No serious incidents of crime were reported,” says Lambert de Klerk, Regional Coordinator for AfriForum in Gauteng.

De Klerk adds that the patrol was aimed at crime prevention and the visibility of safety structures.

“We will continuously take on new projects in cooperation with the police to curb crime in our towns,” De Klerk concludes.

AfriForum urges the residents of the Tshwane Metro to become involved with local branches and take part in the activities of the neighbourhood watches.
