AfriForum’s East Rand neighbourhood watches organise mass patrol

AfriForum’s neighbourhood watches in Alberton, Benoni, Edenvale and Kempton Park, in cooperation with ADT, Mamba Security, Top Security, Fox Security, Emer-G-Med and Kempton Park’s community reaction unit (CRU), on 2 December 2017 held a mass patrol in their respective areas in order to sharpen policing visibility. The action started approximately 16:00 and continued until 3:00.

A total of 94 patrollers, the security companies excluded, arrived to make a difference, while 4 056 km and 508 man-hours were covered. Assistance was rendered at 21 accident scenes and an arrest for drunken driving was also made.

“It is clear that cooperation with safety institutions and other involved parties is starting to bear fruit. Proactive behaviour and the involvement of the community led to an extremely successful patrol,” says Hillel Coetzer, AfriForum’s Safety Coordinator for Gauteng.
