AfriForum’s East Rand neighbourhood watches receive training

On 27 and 28 February 2019 members of AfriForum’s Alberton, Brakpan, Germiston and Springs neighbourhood watches received training in scene management. This training largely focussed on the safeguarding of scenes, as well as the dos and don’ts when patrollers arrive at a scene.

Approximately 75 neighbourhood watch members attended the training, which was presented by Thomas van Dalen, AfriForum’s National Training Manager.

According to Van Dalen, professional training is essential for any safety structure: “AfriForum’s neighbourhood watch members must at all times act within the framework of the law. It is furthermore important that neighbourhood watch members receive the correct training – not only for their own safety, but for the safety of the community as well.”

“It is encouraging to witness the involvement of community members, as well as how each one of them is willing to prioritise the safety of their own community,” says Hillel Coetzer, AfriForum’s Head of Safety for the Northern region.
