AfriForum’s Meyerspark branch helps to catch thief

AfriForum’s Meyerspark neighbourhood watch helped to catch a suspected thief on Sunday morning through their quick response.

A member of the Meyerspark neighbourhood watch, who lives in Roos Street, called in a Code Red on his radio after spotting a trespasser on his property. The suspect wanted to steal a bicycle but fled the scene upon being observed. The neighbourhood watch followed the suspect into Astrid Street and apprehended him on a house’s roof. The Silverton SAPS was then summoned, and the suspect arrested.

“I want to thank our members for their selfless, voluntary action, and the neighbourhood watch for its fast response. It is also an example of excellent cooperation between the neighbourhood watch and the SAPS. However, it is worrisome that the suspect has now been caught and arrested for a second time, and I await feedback from the SAPS in this regard,” says André Badenhorst, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Meyerspark branch.
