AfriForum’s Paulpietersburg branch and police confirm cooperation

The AfriForum branch in Paulpietersburg confirmed their cooperation with the South African Police Service (SAPS) on 16 February 2017 by handing over a copy of the cooperative agreement that was signed on 16 January 2017 between AfriForum and the SAPS in Centurion. The copy was presented to the Station Commander and Management of the Paulpietersburg station.

“This agreement improves relations between communities and the SAPS and serves as encouragement to take part in crime prevention,” says Alwin Böhmer, AfriForum’s Safety Representative for Grootspruit.

“These platforms empower communities to work in cooperation with the SAPS on a more formal level. We are excited to be part of this partnership and have been invited to a weekly meeting to discuss crime prevention,” says Eugene van Aswegen, AfriForum’s Provincial Coordinator for KwaZulu-Natal.

This cooperative agreement further also awarded AfriForum a seat on the provincial committees that meet monthly at the SAPS Head Office in Durban.

“The north-eastern part of KwaZulu-Natal, as well as Pongola, Paulpietersburg and Hluhluwe, form part of AfriForum’s safety network that is growing daily over South Africa,” adds Van Aswegen.
