AfriForum’s Richards Bay branch helps to arrest suspect

On Saturday 13 April 2019 AfriForum’s Richards Bay branch helped to arrest a suspect. This suspect was sought in connection with various cases of attempted murder in Springs, Gauteng, where one person allegedly succumbed to his injuries at a later point.

The suspect was apprehended after neighbourhood watch members recognised him from photos that were distributed on pamphlets and social media.

The neighbourhood watch members immediately contacted the police and a follow-up operation led to the suspect’s arrest.

“I cannot express in words the gratitude, honour or privilege it is to work alongside such dedicated team members – including our men and women in blue – on this day. I will simply say: Well done to all involved for removing this threat from our community’s streets,” says Ian Rapson, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Richards Bay branch.

“It is utterly positive to see how the community and the police work together to curb crime,” says Eugene van Aswegen, AfriForum’s Provincial Coordinator for KwaZulu-Natal.
