AfriForum’s Roodepoort branch and neighbourhood watch safeguard community

AfriForum’s Roodepoort branch and neighbourhood watch in August participated in various safety actions and raids.

On 16 August 2019 AfriForum’s Roodepoort neighbourhood watch participated in the monthly mass visibility patrol. This patrol was executed in cooperation with the following organisations: The SAPS, SCP Security, APCAN Security Group, EC Security, Fairlands CPF, National Security & Fire, Delta Tactical Security, Beagle Watch Armed Response, ICE Community Police, Honeydew CPF, Vitalmed Emergency Response, Ecsa and Fidelity ADT.

“AfriForum’s Roodepoort branch and neighbourhood watch are proud to safeguard the community in cooperation with the SAPS, community policing forums (CPF’s) and other security companies. With solidarity and support between these entities, we are able to combat crime,” says Dewet Ungerer, AfriForum’s Assistant Coordinator for the West Rand.

During the patrol, raids and road blocks were mobilised in various areas under the supervision of the SAPS. A number of arrests were made and illegal firearms and drugs were also confiscated.

The Roodepoort branch and neighbourhood watch also came upon and subsequently confiscated prepared poisoning sachets in Hamberg during a night patrol on 26 August 2019.

Ungerer adds that visibility patrols like these can only be successful if the entire community is involved. “It is a privilege to know that this is indeed the case in Roodepoort.”
