Bultfontein neighbourhood watch helps bring suspect to book

The AfriForum neighbourhood watch in Bultfontein on 29 September assisted in bringing a suspect to book that was involved in a robbery at the Shoprite Usave in the town.

The Usave was robbed by five armed men just before closing time. The staff were held hostage in the shop while also being handled in a rough manner, after which the suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

AgriSec, the company responsible for monitoring the security at Usave, summoned the Bultfontein neighbourhood watch to chase the suspects in cooperation with the SAPS. The suspects fired shots at the SAPS and escaped. One suspect was later arrested by the SAPS thanks to the help of a local farmer.

“Good cooperation by various role-players in Bultfontein ensured that one of the suspects was arrested successfully, which proves that everyone’s involvement in community safety is of critical importance. Therefore AfriForum is making a plea to the residents of Bultfontein to become involved at their local neighbourhood watch and invest in their town’s safety,” says David Olivier, AfriForum’s Safety Coordinator for the central region.
