Neighbourhood watch prevents cable theft in Vanderbijlpark
Members of AfriForum’s Vanderbijlpark neighbourhood watch caught a suspected cable thief on 16 February and handed him over to the SAPS. The suspect was allegedly trying to break into a power substation in Carpentier Street – in broad daylight.
“A member of the public heard the sounds and informed the neighbourhood watch. The neighbourhood watch investigated and found a man on the inside of the fence attempting to break open one of the security gates. The person was apprehended and handed over to the SAPS before any damage could be done to the substation or cables,” says Hannes Kruger, a member of AfriForum’s neighbourhood watch in Vanderbijlpark.
