Community Safety
AfriForum established its first neighbourhood watch in 2012 and has since expanded to 177 nationwide. The neighbourhood watches have communication networks, response capabilities, access to an information system, drones, training and support from AfriForum’s head office.

Training
Training is offered free of charge to active AfriForum neighbourhood watch members.
AfriForum’s neighbourhood watch training begins with basic Level 1 theoretical training, which is presented online every Thursday evening. During these sessions, members receive training in various aspects to enable them to act safely, effectively and within the framework of the law. The modules include:
- Radio and speech procedures
- Legal aspects
- Home and hearth security
- Crime scene handling
- Spiking prevention
- Counter-hijacking
- Command and control
- Area security
- Elementary information gathering
- Accident scene management
Level 2 training is more advanced and includes the following modules:
- Self-defence
- Basic weapons training
- Buddy aid
- Radio and speech
Level 3 training focuses on empowering neighbourhood watch members to specialise in a function within their structure.
- Members can choose where they want to be involved. There are three possibilities: information team, operational team or support team.
- As soon as possible for the member of the neighbourhood watch, he/she must complete a course in accordance with his/her choice.
- These courses are mostly offered from Thursday evening to Sunday afternoon.
- The courses are scheduled over a period of twelve months and at least six courses in each discipline will be offered annually, which must be completed within 12 months.
- If a member of the neighbourhood watch is selected as a proto team member, the completion of level 1 courses is a prerequisite for admission.
- If a member of the watch is elected as leader or a safety chairman in the branch structure, the neighbourhood watch leaders course must be completed within six months of election.

Then there are also the volunteer training corps modules that empower neighbourhood watch members to train other members. This also includes a basic shooting instructor course.

- VOLK basic shooting training instructor
Level 4 training is subject to selection and there are currently two courses.
- Proto team course
- Tracking and follow-up operations
A survival and observation course is currently being developed.
