Security organisations foil car thieves in Klerksdorp

AfriForum’s Klerksdorp neighbourhood watch successfully located a stolen vehicle with the help of various other security organisations on 8 March 2018 and restored it to its owner.

The vehicle was stolen at around 18:30 at the Matlosana Shopping Centre in Klerksdorp. The suspects initially fled to Vierfontein, and then through Viljoenskroon, Parys and Sebokeng. The SAPS and various neighbourhood watches in these towns were informed of the theft, while the Gauteng and North West Flying Squads were also called in. Security organisations from nearby towns, including Fochville, Potchefstroom and Vereeniging, also provided support.

The Gauteng Flying Squad chased after the suspects in Sebokeng and brought the vehicle to a stop in a ditch. The suspects fled the vehicle, but could not be found in the overgrown terrain.

“AfriForum wants to thank all involved parties for their help and support.  Cooperation between security organisations and the SAPS is the key to curbing crime,” says Riechert van der Merwe, Coordinator of AfriForum’s Klerksdorp neighbourhood watch.
