AfriForum’s East Rand neighbourhood watches hold mass patrol

AfriForum’s neighbourhood watches in Alberton, Benoni, Brakpan, Edenvale, Germiston, Kempton Park, Springs and Endicott on 8 March 2019 executed a mass patrol in their various areas in order to sharpen policing visibility in cooperation with the SAPS, the local CPF, community members, various security companies and safety institutions. This action commenced roundabout 16:00 and continued until 06:00 the following morning.

328 patrollers participated in the patrol. A total of 5 388 km were covered by 174 vehicles in 716 man-hours. Assistance was offered during an incident involving domestic violence, three arrests, an armed robbery, two shooting incidents, a housebreaking, the removal of trees from main roads and various car accidents.

“The East Rand neighbourhood watches will continuously tackle projects and regularly hold patrols to combat crime and promote safety in cooperation with the SAPS and other safety institutions,” says Hillel Coetzer, AfriForum’s Head of Community Safety for the Northern Region.
