AFRIFORUM’S GAUTENG NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCHES INCREASE VISIBILITY OVER FESTIVE SEASON

AfriForum launched a national project in November this year to increase policing visibility over the coming festive season. The project will continue until 15 January 2021. Crime is expected to increase over the festive season and AfriForum’s neighbourhood watches want to reassure and protect residents through high-visibility projects.

“Visibility plays a pivotal role in combatting crime. AfriForum neighbourhood watches will therefore focus on increased visibility actions in their respective areas. We encourage the community to participate in these patrols and to help curb crime,” says Llewellynn Hemmens, AfriForum’s Provincial Safety Coordinator for Gauteng.

AfriForum’s Gauteng neighbourhood watches also participated in the civil rights organisation’s visibility patrols in November in cooperation with the SAPS, CPFs and various security firms.

“Projects like these promote cooperation between various role-players. Communities should take ownership of their own safety and support the SAPS within the framework of the law to protect their suburbs,” says Robert Koch, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Pionier neighbourhood watch.
