AfriForum’s greater Brandwag farm watch receives safety training

AfriForum’s Mossel Bay branch provided reaction team training to 12 farmers of AfriForum’s greater Brandwag farm watch, which includes the areas of Brandwag, Leeukloof/Hamerkop and Ruiterbos.

“The purpose of this training is to train AfriForum’s farm watch reaction team, who are often first to arrive at farm attacks or related scenes, to handle these situations until the police arrive,” says Murray van der Merwe, Safety Chairperson at AfriForum’s Mossel Bay branch.

Phillip Goodger and Joe Geldenhuys from Tiger Kai Krav Maga opened the training on Friday with an insightful lecture on self-defence at a crime scene. Hereafter wo. Botha and Lt. Col. Meiring from Dagamaskop Police Station provided practical training to attendees on the safeguarding of crime scenes.

Six instructors of Tiger Kai provided further reaction team training on Saturday. Thereafter Ronél and Thys Steenkanp from SHE CAT provided first-aid training for first responders on emergency scenes. The course was concluded on Sunday with practical exercise at the shooting range under the supervision of Tiger Kai’s instructors.

“After these successful few days of intensive training we are positive that the reaction team will be able to uphold themselves successfully during an incident on a farm until the SAPS arrives,” Van der Merwe concludes.
