AfriForum’s Richards Bay branch installs an advanced camera system

The Richards Bay branch installed four advanced aMadlozi cameras at strategic points in Richards Bay. This initiative forms part of the branch’s strategy to use technology to help fight crime in the community.

“We decided to make use of the aMadlozi camera system because it has already been installed in large parts of KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga East. The system has proven to help combat crime with great success,” says Ian Rapson AfriForum’s branch Chairperson for Richards Bay.

“AfriForum’s branches in Pongola and Hluhluwe have already made use of the aMadlozi camera system and are planning to install it in Paulpietersburg as well as Vryheid,” says Eugene van Aswegen, District Coordinator for KwaZulu-Natal.

“This system uses cameras that can read license plates and record movement between people and vehicles in a searchable database. This camera system can be used as an alarm that goes off at specific times, or when movement is detected. This way the communities take security into their own hands and ensure responsible, focused, and proactive action that curbs crime in areas where aMadlozi camera systems are installed,” says Pierre Conradie, Director of Alpha Security in Hluhluwe.

“We hope to further expand this system in our communities next year,” adds Burger Beukes, Treasurer of AfriForum’s Richards Bay branch.

We encourage the community to get involved to make a difference and expand the system even more in Richards Bay: SMS “Richards Bay” to 45344 (R1).
