AFRIFORUM’S VENTERSDORP NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH ASSISTS IN ARRESTING CABLE THIEVES

The AfriForum neighbourhood watch in Ventersdorp assisted the police and a security company on Wednesday morning in apprehending alleged cable thieves. The security company with the help of closed-circuit television received news that three suspicious vehicles were on their way from Coligny to Ventersdorp. The security company called the neighbourhood watch and the SAPS’ detective branch.

A vehicle with four suspects was pulled over, but they escaped when attention was drawn to a minibus taxi. The taxi was filled with bags of stolen copper wire and the only occupant was arrested. The other four suspects were apprehended at Viljoenskroon and transferred to the Ventersdorp police station.

“This incident, where five alleged cable thieves were finally apprehended, proves the value of good cooperation between various organisations. It is to the advantage of the community of Ventersdorp that the SAPS, security companies and the AfriForum neighbourhood watch work so well together,” says Alta Pretorius, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Mooirivier.
