AfriForum is an Afrikaans civil rights organisation that protects the rights of minority groups at national as well as provincial level, and anyone who can identify with AfriForum’s principles and objectives may join the organisation. AfriForum’s community plan focuses on mobilising communities to thus take control of their own streets and neighbourhoods again. Cradock branch donates trees to Hangklip environmental club

AfriForum’s Cradock branch concluded its participation in AfriForum’s National Arbour Month Project this weekend and donated a dozen indigenous trees to learners from the Hangklip environmental club to plant at home.

“By planting indigenous trees, we not only preserve our environment and make it a more beautiful place to live in, but we also show that we have hope for the future. Trees are much more than just an important part of the ecosystem or an essential natural resource – trees are symbolic of life,” says Dwayne de Beer, Cradock branch member responsible for youth affairs.

“AfriForum aims to plant trees every year, not only because it is good for the environment and to fight climate change, but also because it creates a piece of heritage that we can be proud of,” says Wikus van der Walt, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Eastern Cape.
