Deneysville branch cleans up town

AfriForum’s newly established Deneysville branch did not waste any time this past December. This branch immediately tidied up the town by cutting grass and trimming trees. The focus was on the town’s entrance and the area by the library. The Vereeniging branch made their tools and equipment available to the Deneysville branch to carry out the task.

After its establishment, the new neighbourhood watch also immediately and regularly started patrols, especially during load shedding, when there is always a spike in crime. Marius Venter and his wife, Elsabie, from Vaal Emergency Care Private Ambulance Services, donated first aid bags to the neighbourhood watch. They also intend to complete the back a buddy training later in January. For their safety, the patrollers are equipped with body cameras and vehicle tracking devices which are monitored by the control room. The patrollers can also communicate with each other using two-way radios.

The branch also has a call centre that the public can call if they encounter problems or require information. The caller can then choose the applicable option to reach the relevant management member. The number is 087 152 3176.

“I want to thank the community that supported us and provided refreshments. We are already busy planning for the year ahead. We want to restore the town to its former glory. I am currently meeting with the local municipality to repair our roads to prevent damaged tires due to potholes. I would also like to thank the Vereeniging branch who made their equipment available to us, without which we would not have been able to tidy up our town in December. Our first community meeting will be on 2 February, and we would like to invite the Deneysville community to attend the meeting at Brentwood Lodge,” says Chris Els, the Chairperson of the Deneysville branch.

Residents of Deneysville, Oranjeville and Viljoensdrif who want to get involved can contact Chris Els at 067 078 2740.

“I am very excited about the new branch. The community is extremely positive about getting involved to make a real difference in Deneysville,” says Alta Pretorius, District Coordinator for Mooirivier.

The community is encouraged to get involved or join AfriForum and make a difference: SMS “Deneysville or Oranjeville” to 45344 (R1).
