Helderbergkom branch establishes vegetable and flower garden

AfriForum’s Helderbergkom branch visited the Bizweni Centre for Disabled Children in July. The purpose of the visit was to donate seeds, compost, and tires so that the community could start a sustainable gardening project. A vegetable and flower garden has been established and will be maintained by members of the centre and the Helderbergkom branch.

Every child has the right to a life of dignity, care and love, regardless of their abilities. Support and care are fundamental human rights and an expression of equality and respect for disabled children. That is why the branch thought it proper to launch a project that would make a real difference by caring for the children. Residents of the centre also helped to prepare the soil and plant the seeds.

“Projects like this have a tremendously positive effect on everyone involved. It’s not just a beautiful garden; it also teaches the children new skills and responsibilities and will supply the centre with fresh vegetables in future,” says Jacques Benade, District Coordinator for the Boland.

Members of the community are encouraged to get involved in community projects like these. Join AfriForum’s Helderbergkom branch today and make a difference. Contact Jacques Benade on 081 217 0008.
