Joint safety operation bears fruit; many illegal immigrants arrested

AfriForum’s Grootfontein CE neighbourhood watch in the east of Pretoria (part of the Pretoria East branch) in cooperation with Tierpoort Neighbourhood Watch, the South African Police Service in Welbekend and Boschkop, as well as the security firms Monitor Net and Cap executed a safety operation this weekend. Twenty-two illegal immigrants were arrested during the operation. Emer-G-Med provided emergency assistance.

Grootfontein, Tierpoort and Bashewa, all in the east of Pretoria, were subject to serious crime in the past couple of months. The purpose of the weekend’s safety operation was to decrease crime in these areas by clearing the open fields, stopping illegal activities, finding stolen goods and uncovering illegal immigrants.

About 50 neighbourhood watch members and residents partook, while trained sniffer dogs, motorcycles and horses were used in the operation.

“Thanks to good cooperation between the different role-players, the safety operation turned out to be a huge success. We trust that forces will be joined often to increase safety,” says Lambert de Klerk, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Gauteng.

AfriForum thanks each person who was involved in the operation for their support.
