Local fire brigade also taking advantage of new AfriForum emergency water point on Machadodorp

The new emergency water point AfriForum’s Machadodorp branch recently set up in this town has already made an important contribution to this community. And even the local fire brigade has already come to draw water from this water point. The serious water shortages experienced in this town also put pressure on the services of the fire brigade, which is why AfriForum’s emergency water point here has brought welcome relief for firefighters to refill the tanks of their mobile firefighting units.

“The community and local emergency service teams are suffering due to the water shortages experienced here, but thanks to the cooperation and proactive actions of AfriForum’s Machadodorp branch, this emergency water point has already made a critical contribution to improving conditions in this town,” explains Arlo van Heerden, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Lowveld Region. “Through this initiative, AfriForum was able to ensure that, despite water shortages, the fire brigade could remain fully operational during emergencies and thus tend to the safety of our community.”

According to Henrico Duvenhage, Chairperson of AfriForum’s Machadodorp branch, this branch is proud of the support they were able to provide to the local fire brigade through the emergency water point. “Establishing the emergency water point proves our commitment to improving infrastructure and services in Machadodorp,” he explains.

“We are also grateful for the community’s support and involvement in this project. Without their cooperation, this project would not have been possible,” concludes Duvenhage.

AfriForum set up its first emergency water points at Laerskool Pierneef in Pretoria in 2019. Since then, many more emergency water points have been installed nationwide (except in the Western Cape). The total number of emergency water points now stands at nearly 70. The capacity of these water points varies from 500 litres to 100 000 litres and the total capacity nationwide is currently approximately 650 000 litres.
