#VulDieGat: Oudtshoorn branch repairs potholes in front of school

The AfriForum branch in Oudtshoorn embarked on its first #VulDieGat project this past weekend by repairing a strip of road – which was badly maintained – and other potholes in front of Langenhoven Gimnasium with tar. The branch used a total of 3,2 tonnes of tar to fill up a surface of 191 m². The tar was also sealed to ensure that it does not crack or crumble again. The potholes on this road are in front of the entrance to the school and have presented serious challenges to motorists who use the road on a daily basis.

“The potholes and cracks in the road arose because it was not properly maintained. Numerous smaller potholes have also turned into a giant hole over time. Because this is one of the busiest streets in town, it was essential for the Oudtshoorn branch to intervene and repair the dangerous potholes,” explains Marthinus Erasmus, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Southern Cape.

The Oudtshoorn branch plans to undertake many more #VulDieGat projects and work with the community to get rid of all the potholes. AfriForum has already filled potholes worth more than R1,4 million nationwide by using almost 400 000 tonnes of tar (or 16 000 bags of tar) to do so.
