AfriForum’s Springs neighbourhood watch maintains high visibility in May

The AfriForum neighbourhood watch in Springs was active in May and spent a total of 127 hours on the road to increase visibility in the city and curb crime. The patrollers covered a total of 1 173 km in nine vehicles during patrols. The neighbourhood watch also handled numerous incidents and provided assistance to the SAPS. The incidents include incidents of cable theft, robberies, a house fire, as well as the confiscation of illegal goods.

“These successes are due to the proactive action of the Springs neighbourhood watch. The high visibility of the neighbourhood watch reduces the chances of criminal offenses in their area. We are very grateful to these volunteers who in difficult times do not hesitate to assist their community and take responsibility for their own safety,” says Petrus Coetzee, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the East Rand.

“The successes of the Springs neighbourhood watch are once again proof that AfriForum’s specialist training, equipment, local and national radio networks and collaboration with other role players is extremely successful. We are grateful to every member who sacrifices their time and makes a difference at their own expense.
