AfriForum and other organisations fix potholes on R33

AfriForum’s Vryheid and Paulpietersburg branches kicked off their pothole project on 5 June together with the Kambula Farmers’ Association and other organisations. These organisations have started to repair potholes on the R33 between Vryheid and the Pongola bridge on the way to Piet Retief, which pose a significant danger to motorists. This project was started because the Department of Transport does not repair the potholes in time and in the right way, which leads to the condition of the road only deteriorating further.

During this project, warning signs were also erected to warn motorists about the bad condition of the road.

The AfriForum branches received a financial donation and decided to launch this project as this road has become life-threatening. The branches worked with engineers and members of the community to plan this project and to ensure that it will be a success.

“AfriForum and the Kambula Farmers’ Association set off near Vryheid and in two days already repaired several potholes with approximately 120 bags of tar. We are very disappointed in the department who cannot even put up warning signs where the road is in a dangerous condition,” says Eugene van Aswegen, AfriForum’s Provincial Coordinator for KwaZulu-Natal.

This project should take about two weeks. The AfriForum branches would like to thank the community members, donors and other organisations that contributed to this project.
