AfriForum releases a manual with tips for firearms owners

The civil rights organisation AfriForum today released a manual with tips and answers to frequently asked questions regarding the possession and handling of firearms. Topics discussed in the manual include which objects are considered firearms, the license application process, the safe and legal storage of firearms and ammunition, the carrying and transport of firearms as well as the use of a firearm.

“Recently there have been several incidents where members of the police harassed legal firearms owners at roadblocks because they had firearms which they are legally allowed to have. This is why firearm owners must be informed about their rights so that they are not victimised by uninformed or malicious police officers,” says Jacques Broodryk, AfriForum’s Spokesperson for Community Safety.

“AfriForum supports the legal and responsible possession and handling of firearms, and that is why we have compiled this manual to inform, empower and also remind members of the public how they should handle their firearms, within the framework of the law,” concludes Broodryk.
