AfriForum establishes Klein-Karoo farm watch

The civil rights organisation AfriForum founded a farm watch in the Ladismith area on 28 July. This farm watch forms part of AfriForum’s Kannaland branch and aims to keep the community safe in collaboration with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and other local security companies.

The newly elected management for the farm watch is Dries Erasmus (leader), George Reynolds (operational team leader), Anné Reynolds (support team leader) and Franklin le Hanie (intelligence team leader).

The Kannaland region covers a large area of land, and the many farm roads make it easy for criminals to evade the law. Another serious problem is drug dealers smuggling their goods across these roads.

“AfriForum is excited about the new farm watch and looks forward to making a real difference in the community’s safety in collaboration with the SAPS and other role-players in the security sector. This farm watch is a beacon of hope, and I thank every member of the Kannaland branch for their example of doing things themselves and the enthusiasm with which they take on every challenge. Together we are stronger,” says Marthinus Erasmus, District Coordinator for the Southern Cape.

“The management of the Kannaland branch welcomes this new farm watch and AfriForum’s support. Our goal is to establish a strong security structure in the community and cooperation agreements with other role-players in the security sector,” says Carel Buckle, Chairperson of the Kannaland branch.
