AfriForum launches documentary about the true state of affairs in Netball SA

AfriForum is launching a short documentary today that will reveal certain harsh realities within Netball South Africa (NSA) to the public.

Netball is one of the sports in South Africa that has incredible potential, but due to mismanagement and political agendas, this potential is not being fully exploited. According to Ronald Peters, manager of AfriForum Sport, several role players who were until recently involved with NSA approached AfriForum about, among other things, incidents of victimization, mismanagement and sexual harassment in NSA. These role players requested AfriForum to intervene.

“The Netball World Cup is around the corner and the official hashtag of this world cup is #TakingNetballBackToThePeople. Thus, this year’s world cup tournament focuses on bringing netball back to the people and therefore it is important to us that South Africans know what is really going on behind the scenes in Netball SA. Our communities and the private sector must take a stand and take the future of sport into our own hands together with organisations like AfriForum,” says Peters.

AfriForum strongly condemns the mismanagement of sports federations and the governing bodies of sport in South Africa, as this has a significant impact on the role that sport should really play in the development and empowerment of communities.
