AfriForum’s East Rand neighbourhood watches participate in mass patrol

AfriForum’s neighbourhood watches in Alberton, Benoni, Brakpan, Edenvale, Germiston, Kempton Park and Springs on 17 May 2019 launched a mass patrol in their respective areas in cooperation with various security companies and safety institutions in order to increase policing visibility. This action started at around 18:00 and continued up until 06:00 the following day.

Altogether 274 patrollers turned up to make a difference while 6 941 km were covered. These neighbourhood watches handled 19 incidents during the mass patrol.

“The East Rand neighbourhood watches will continuously tackle projects and regularly execute patrols to attempt to combat crime and promote safety in cooperation with the police and other safety institutions,” says Hillel Coetzer, AfriForum’s Head of Community Safety for the Northern Region.
