AfriForum’s Sasolburg branch holds meeting with Mayor regarding poor service delivery

The AfriForum branch in Sasolburg on 17 April held a meeting with Lindiwe Tshongwe, Mayor of the Metsimaholo Local Municipality, regarding poor service delivery in Sasolburg and Vaalpark.

Councillors George Burger, Koos Grobbelaar and Jacques Barnard, as well as Mosiuoa Poho (technical services), Fikile Mosokweni (social services) and Themba Mikane (Political Advisor) – all members of the Mayoral Committee – also attended the meeting.

The branch arranged the meeting to submit complaints from the community regarding poor service delivery directly to the Mayor. Complaints include, amongst others, the following: Potholes, dysfunctional streetlights, grass not being cut, municipal infrastructure not being maintained and pollution. The AfriForum branch management as well as the councillors made suggestions on how these problems can be tackled in future.

Tshongwe also approved the request of the AfriForum branch to continue with the planned do-it-yourself projects. This includes the repair of streetlights in D.F. Malan Street and cleaning up public parks and lawns.

In the meantime, the public and business sectors are invited to become involved with the branch’s streetlight project which kicks off in June 2018. Those interested in joining the branch or who wish to make donations to the project can send an email to izak@lvm1.co.za or stephen.nel@afriforum.co.za.
