AfriForum branches in Western Cape deliver farm attack memoranda to SAPS

AfriForum’s branches in the Western Cape delivered memoranda to Police Stations in Oudtshoorn, George, Mossel Bay, Albertinia, Still Bay, Riversdale, Hermanus and Vredendal between 21 and 30 November 2017 to highlight farm attacks.

AfriForum also delivered memoranda at Police Stations in areas where there are not yet any AfriForum branches, including Klapmuts, Stellenbosch, Malmesbury, Wellington, Goodwood, Bellville-South, Durbanville, Parow and the area around Cape Town International Airport. More than 100 memoranda were delivered countrywide.

The memoranda were met positively, the only exception being the Albertinia Police Station. The local Station Commander sent one of her deputies to receive the memorandum, but ordered that no proof of receipt be signed.

“The level of responsibility mirrored by this action is shocking and very disappointing – especially as a farm murder had occurred three weeks before the memorandum was delivered,” says Deon de Jager, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Western Cape.

“It is important to AfriForum to have a good understanding with the SAPS and we are thankful for every member of the SAPS who gave their cooperation during the delivery of the memoranda,” De Jager concludes.
