Benoni branch cleans area opposite primary school

The AfriForum branch in Benoni, in collaboration with local organisations and the community, on 7 April cleaned up the area on the corner of High and Umtata Road, opposite the Brentwood Park Primary School. As a result of the municipality’s failure to keep this intersection clean and tidy, the pupils and residents must look at this eyesore daily.

AfriForum’s Benoni branch kicked off the cleaning project in High Road in collaboration with community organisations such as the sector 3 community policing forum, the Rotary club, the local Pick n Pay, ER24, DotTowing and Clean Projects. During the action, the area along the road was cleaned, bushes were removed, trees were pruned, litter was picked up and the long grass was cut with three tractors, while the curbs were also painted.

“Community members working together towards a common goal to oppose the decay of municipal services is a winning recipe for achieving the survival and pride of our communities. I believe that this transformation will bring hope to the community that faces various challenges at the municipal level daily,” says Jurie Ferreira, District Coordinator of AfriForum’s Benoni branch.

Ferreira further emphasised that this project is a testimony of what a community and community organisations can achieve when they team up to make a difference. The branch is planning several other projects that will be undertaken throughout the year and he hopes that this initiative will inspire all residents to get involved with the branch and to participate in similar projects.

The Benoni branch would like to thank every organisation and participant involved in the success of this project. The community is also invited to get involved and join the branch for future projects.
