Dink of Sink debate competition still growing after 17 years

AfriForum will celebrate its second year as part of the Dink of Sink debate competition in the southern region, which has been presented by the Hoërskool D.F. Malan for the past 17 years.

Although this competition has run for so many years, the number of learners who participate is still growing: 120 learners from 16 different schools participated in the southern leg of this competition.

The elimination rounds finished on Friday afternoon 19 May 2017, followed by a gala event that evening where the best junior and senior teams were announced.

Hoërskool D.F. Malan claimed victory in the junior as well as senior categories, and both teams will face the winners of the central and northern regions.

The central leg of the competition will take place later in the year at the C&N Oranje Meisieskool , while the northern leg will take place at the Hoërskool Montana. The national final will take place in September 2017 at AfriForum’s head office in Pretoria.

“AfriForum wants to promote mother-tongue education through its involvement in this debate competition. It also presents the ideal opportunity to promote Afrikaans as language of instruction.  Debating is a skill that children should learn from childhood on,” says Carien Bloem, Project Coordinator for Education at AfriForum.

Watch the insert about this completion on Groot Ontbyt on KykNet (channel 144), which will air from 5 to 9 Junie 2017 between 6:15 and 6:30.
