Disaster regulations only creates uncertainty and distrust

The disaster regulations announced yesterday creates uncertainty and distrust among the public as the regulations are not clear. These regulations follows after a state of disaster was declared on 9 February 2023 due to the ongoing power crisis. The document lacks a clear outline of how the government will solve the power crisis through these regulations and the steps that will be put in place to achieve this goal.

“It appears that the compilation of these regulations was done haphazardly to appease the public. The regulations are unnecessary because the measures contained in them are already provided for in existing legislation,” says Tarien Cooks, Disaster Management Specialist at AfriForum.
