Knysna branch completes second phase of renovation along N2

The second phase of the renovation of the safety fence along the N2 highway outside Knysna has just been completed. This project, launched in November last year, is undertaken entirely by volunteers from AfriForum’s Knysna branch and the organisation Revive Knysna. The fence have been torn down in places and are now being painstakingly repaired and repainted.

In this phase of the project, a total of 335 metres of the fence was repaired at a cost of approximately R9 000. This brings the total length of repairs to this fence to 570 metres – more than half a kilometre. In addition to the repairs to the fence, volunteers also clean the sidewalk, pick up trash and clean the stormwater drains.

According to Schalk van der Merwe, chairperson of AfriForum’s Knysna branch, this branch will not wait for anyone to fix this community. “At AfriForum we believe in doing it yourself, rather than doing nothing. We would also like to thank the members of Revive Knysna, without whom we would not have been able to make this project a success.”
