KROONSTAD DEMANDS URGENT ACTION

KROONSTAD DEMANDS URGENT ACTION AND ANSWERS FROM MOQHAKA MUNICIPALITY CONCERNING DECADE-OLD SEWAGE FLOW PROBLEM

  1. For years sewage has been flowing everywhere in business areas, residential areas, veld and marshes, ending up in the Vals River.
  2. Blocked sewer lines and pump stations that are out of order.
  3. The real problem is not dealt with and repaired, namely the sewage purification works that have not been 100% functional for quite some time. Even following the visit by a government deputation in September 2021, the sewage farm problem has not been solved.
  4. Millions of rands are being spent on efforts to get the sewage farm in a working condition again.
  5. Tender processes that are not being followed in terms of the law and funds that are not available.
  6. Shifting the problem by rerouting sewage from blocked lines to stormwater drains, from where it is dumped in the Vals River and surrounding areas.
  7. The ecology and the environment are being destroyed. Fish and even trees along the river are dying.
  8. Maintenance of essential equipment is not carried out. Are staff competent?
  9. The Vals River, that runs through Kroonstad, is being polluted by sewage from several points and residential areas on a daily basis, which then ends up in the Vaal River and eventually in the Orange River. In this way Mokhaka contributes to the total pollution of South Africa.

How long will AfriForum and residents of Kroonstad still be able to live with this situation?

Drastic, urgent, practical and durable solutions are demanded.

COME ON, KROONSTAD, STAND TOGETHER AND SAVE OUR BEAUTIFUL TOWN AND ALL WHO ARE LIVING HERE!
