Paulpietersburg branch installs advanced camera system

The AfriForum branch in Paulpietersburg has set up two advanced aMadlozi cameras at strategic locations in this KwaZulu-Natal town. It forms part of the Paulpietersburg branch’s strategy to use technology to help fight crime in the community.

“We decided to make use of the aMadlozi camera system, as it has already been installed in larger parts of northern KwaZulu-Natal and East Mpumalanga. The system has proven that it helps in fighting crime and has already led to great successes,” says Martin Dedekind, AfriForum’s Chairperson for the Paulpietersburg branch.

“AfriForum’s Pongola, Sodwana and Hluhluwe branches have already made use of this system and soon plan to also install aMadlozi cameras in Vryheid as well,” says Eugene van Aswegen, District Doordinator in KwaZulu-Natal.

The system uses cameras that can read number plates and record any other movement between people and vehicles in a searchable database. This camera system can be set like an alarm that goes off at specific times or when movement is detected. This way the communities take safety into their own hands and ensure responsible, focused and proactive action that curbs crime in areas where aMadlozi camera systems are installed,” says Pierre Conradie, Director of Alpha Security in Hluhluwe.

“We hope to further expand the system in our communities next year,” concludes Dedekind.

The community is encouraged to get involved with this AfriForum branch to make a real difference and expand this system further in Paulpietersburg: SMS “Paulpiet” to 45344 (R1).
