Who and what is AfriForum?

Potholes: AfriForum branch takes Bethal’s “buffalo” by the horns

Until recently Buffel Street in Bethal was a dangerous stretch of road with dozens of potholes. Thanks to AfriForum’s Bethal branch, the potholes on nearly 200 m of this road, from Davel Street to Koedoe Street, were repaired on 5 October by means of a comprehensive pothole project. A total of 250 bags of tar were used in this project, the cost of which amounts to nearly R17 000.

According to Ingrid Human, chairperson of AfriForum’s Bethal branch, Buffel, Gemsbok and Waterbok Streets are this area’s three most important access routes to Bethal’s town centre. However, Gemsbok and Waterbok Streets have already deteriorated to such an extent that it would not be cost-effective to repair them. The branch therefore decided to focus their repair efforts on Buffel Street to see to it that motorists still have a passable route along which the town centre can be reached.

“AfriForum’s Bethal branch will continue to fight against the town’s decline and we encourage the community to join hands, because everyone’s input is needed to win this battle,” explains Human.
