Task team provides 10 000 nutritious instant meals to Special Olympics SA

The COVID-19 task team founded by the civil rights organisation AfriForum and the family farmer network Saai donated 10 000 nutritious Genesis instant meals to Special Olympics South Africa (SOSA) at their head office in Bryanston today in cooperation with Laeveld Agrochem. SOSA supports indigent families with children who are mentally challenged, and these meals are distributed to these families.

In the last 72 hours the task team distributed about 200 000 meals to families and institutions that were identified by Solidarity Helping Hand.

“Children in their early developmental phase require these nutrients urgently, and especially disabled children do not understand why they now have to go hungry. The children who we help today are at the bottom of the list in terms of state support. AfriForum cannot allow that these children’s development is impeded as a result of the economic impact of the government’s lockdown. The task team therefore decided to donate more than 10 000 nutritious instant meals to SOSA today,” says Ian Cameron, Head of Community Safety at AfriForum.

“Our projects grow, and we receive more contributions from donors. The task team works directly with indigents; our distribution is transparent, and we keep good records. This transparency results in trust in the task team’s work methods and gives credibility to the process,” says Francois Rossouw, CEO of Saai.

“Laeveld Agrochem is grateful to be part of the task team by being able to donate nutritious products to people who really need it. The Genesis product contains all 55 essential nutrients, 12 vitamins and five minerals of the daily dietary requirements. The instant meals are also slow release, which means that it will keep you satiated for up to six hours. This will keep the tummies of families full and provide them with at least one wholesome meal per day,” says Corné Liebenberg, Marketing Director at Laeveld Agrochem.

The public can donate to the Solidarity Movement’s emergency fund to support this project:
