AfriForum empowers safety structures with training

AfriForum Community Safety gave training to neighbourhood watch members from 16 to 18 September, which included different courses for neighbourhood watch leaders, intelligence team leaders, operations team leaders and support team leaders. These four aspects form the core of AfriForum’s neighbourhood watch structures. The training took place outside Pretoria to, among others, the Randfontein, Apiesrivier, Alberton, Rayton-Heuwelsig, Hartbeespoort, Hospitaalpark, Bethlehem and Brakpan neighbourhood watches.

This past week, AfriForum also presented its sixth proto team course. Proto team members are the so-called spearhead of AfriForum’s neighbourhood watch response teams and receive specialised training that includes hand-to-hand combat, medical training and tactical weapon handling.

AfriForum has approximately 160 safety structures nationwide with almost 10 000 trained volunteers.

“We are very proud of all our neighbourhood watch members who make themselves available to serve their communities in such a selfless way. We as AfriForum will continue to ensure that these members receive excellent quality training in order to make our neighbourhood watches as effective as possible,” says Jacques Broodryk, AfriForum’s spokesperson for Community Safety.

“Crime levels in South Africa are on the rise in both rural and urban areas and the SAPS have themselves admitted that they cannot fulfill their mandate. We therefore strongly encourage members of the public to get involved with the safety of their communities and to join their nearest AfriForum neighbourhood watch,” concludes Broodryk.
