AfriForum’s Kirkwood neighbourhood watch catches burglar

AfriForum’s Kirkwood neighbourhood watch caught a suspected burglar on 26 August 2023. This follows after the neighbourhood watch’s patrollers received an emergency call about a suspect gaining access to an elderly resident’s home. On the way to the scene, an AfriForum patroller spotted and arrested the suspected burglar on the side of the road. The SAPS was on the scene shortly after they were informed of the incident and took the suspect in for questioning.

“This is a great success for AfriForum’s Kirkwood neighbourhood watch and the entire Kirkwood community. We thank every AfriForum and neighbourhood watch member for their selfless contribution and time sacrificed to secure this community,” says Wikus van der Walt, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the Eastern Cape.

“Thanks to the patroller’s quick action and the involvement of the necessary role players, the suspect was successfully arrested. It is important that community members join their local AfriForum neighbourhood watch,” says Pieter Potgieter, leader of AfriForum’s Kirkwood neighbourhood watch.

“AfriForum requests all communities to get involved in their local neighbourhood watch structures so that, in collaboration with other security services in their area, they can start looking after their own safety. We invite community members to join the local AfriForum neighbourhood watch today,” Van der Walt emphasises.
