Benoni branch clears roads after severe rainstorms

The AfriForum branch in Benoni earlier this month cleaned up roads after heavy rainstorms wreaked havoc in this East Rand town. This action took place on 6 and 7 January 2023 after trees, among other things, fell on roads and on vehicles.

Teams were deployed and AfriForum branch members, in collaboration with local security companies, restored the traffic flow as soon as possible. About 23 members were equipped with eight chainsaws to cut up and remove the trees that were blocking roads.

Twelve trees were removed during the action in the following roads: Sunnyside Avenue, Edward Street, Bright Street, Victoria Avenue, Woburn Avenue, Cranbourne Avenue, Wooten Street, Howard Avenue and Harpur Avenue.

“It is important for AfriForum that community structures know how to act in emergency situations to keep themselves and the community safe and tidy,” says Jurie Ferreira, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for the East Rand.

“Collaboration between different local structures is extremely important and successes like this are driven by effective communication between the community and role players. The success of this action once again shows the strength of the community working together.

The Benoni branch calls on community members to get involved to help their community. SMS “Benoni” to 45340 (R1) to join and become part of the solution.
