Mossel Bay branch attends Regional Summit #WeWillDoItOurslves

On 11 and 12 August, the civil rights organisation AfriForum held a regional summit #WeWillDoItOurslves in the Western Cape at Eensgezind Function Venue in Durbanville, Cape Town. This summit aimed to collaborate with all the AfriForum branch members on practical plans for the future and to bring everyone up to date on the latest developments within the organisation.

The theme for this year’s summit was #WeWillDoItOurslves. Kallie Kriel spoke about AfriForum’s growth from its inception in 2005 with three staff members to today, where it has more than 313 000 volunteers and 168 neighbourhood watches. Kriel also shared his vision for the future of the organisation. Various other speakers delivered presentations on topics such as local government matters and environmental matters like AfriForum’s national blue and green drop project and their national landfill audit campaign. The members could ask questions and provide input regarding local self-governance, strategy, and community safety.

“The branch members’ input was informing and encouraging. The togetherness with other AfriForum branches and the sharing of challenges and solutions enables us to help each other and gives us hope for the future. AfriForum’s regional summit truly is an annual highlight. Together we are stronger,” said Joy Cook, AfriForum’s secretary for the Mossel Bay branch.
