More than 1 000 AfriForum neighbourhood watch members in Free State, North West and KZN take part in national mass patrol

On Friday (13 October 2023) at least 1 088 AfriForum neighbourhood watch members from the Free State, North West and KwaZulu-Natal participated in the civil rights organisation’s third national mass patrol of the year in their respective towns, cities and regions. A total of 16 880 km was travelled with 537 vehicles in these three provinces – known in AfriForum ranks as the Central Region.

The Central Region undertook the mass patrol in collaboration with the local South African Police Service (SAPS), emergency services and security companies. AfriForum organises these patrols to, among other things, promote communities’ safety, increase visibility and improve cooperation with the SAPS and security companies.

According to Johnnie van der Walt, AfriForum’s Telecommunications Manager, no serious incidents were reported during Friday’s patrols in this region.

“The Central Region’s neighbourhood watches will undertake continuous actions and patrols in collaboration with the police in order to combat crime in the respective areas. We encourage communities to become part of their local AfriForum neighbourhood watch,” says Van der Walt.
