AfriForum’s Bloemfontein neighbourhood watches participate in national mass patrol

Eight of AfriForum’s Bloemfontein neighbourhood watches this past weekend participated in this civil rights organisation’s national mass patrol. Approximately 170 neighbourhood watch members, as well as various emergency and private security companies were involved in the patrol.

The patrollers patrolled the City of Roses between Friday evening at 19:00 and Saturday morning at 3:00 in shifts of three hours each using 105 vehicles. In total almost 6 183 km were covered.

During the patrol the patrollers, amongst others, offered assistance at a serious accident scene in Pellissier and assisted in regulating traffic at another accident scene in Langenhovenpark. Patrollers also offered assistance by transporting a person with stab wounds to the hospital after an incident at a bar in the city.

“The patrol was aimed at crime prevention and the visibility of safety structures,” says Pieter Myburg, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Bloemfontein.

The following organisations participated in the mass patrol:

  • ITR;
  • Bloemsec;
  • Netcare 911;
  • Trauma Response Africa; and
  • Life Rosepark ambulance services.
