Ermelo and Chrissiesmeer neighbourhood watches acquires firefighting units

On 22 August, AfriForum’s Ermelo and Chrissiesmeer neighbourhood watches each acquired a 600-litre high-pressure firefighting unit. These firefighting units were manufactured by Hoëveld Toerusting in Bethal and will be used by these neighbourhood watches to fight fires in and around Ermelo and Chrissiesmeer with the help of the farming community and the Msukaligwa Fire Department in Ermelo.

Chrissiesmeer is particularly vulnerable to fires because the nearest fire department is in Ermelo. The danger of fires is further aggravated by several open grass fields. These firefighting units will enable neighbourhood watch members to fight fires until more help arrives.

“We are grateful that these units will help us to make a real difference in the community, and we hope to expand our capacity even further,” says Jaco van der Merwe, AfriForum’s Chairperson of the Ermelo branch.
