Ventersdorp neighbourhood watch tidies up after protests

AfriForum’s Ventersdorp neighbourhood watch helped to tidy up the town after protesting residents left the streets unusable. The protestors took to the town’s streets on 8 October 2018 due to unhappiness over poor service delivery by the JB Marks Local Municipality.

Boulders, rocks and heaps of refuse covered the streets and posed a threat to motorists. After the protest, neighbourhood watch members took initiative and removed barricades and other debris to make the road usable again.

“Seeing that protest actions have become a regular occurrence in Ventersdorp, the neighbourhood watch is especially grateful to the police, Ventersdorp’s residents and other institutions in the community who assist them during similar cleaning actions and therefore also promote the town’s safety,” says Stephen Nel, AfriForum’s District Coordinator for Mooiriver.
